Mary Sturman ^60,61,62

  General Notes:

I find myself prejudiced toward my Great Grandmother Sarah Dabney Sturman. My mother Dorcas romantized her mother-in-law Rowena Victoria. She pictured Rowena Victoria as a wild and free western girl who rode horses with the wind blowing through her flowing red-hair. Joseph Napoleon took his bride to Illinois to meet his family. Rowena Victoria told Dorcas that she was looked down upon by a proud family who felt superior to her. After I read "They Saw America Born" page 62, I can believe that Rowena Victoria's story had a great deal merit.

"A clear-cut understanding he [Nehemiah Davis II] had with his wife. Indoors she was the head of the family. All their eleven children lived up to her standards and demands, and her standards were the best southern in tradition. Though her grandmother, Sally Dabney, came from Carolina to Kentucky at five in 1776, with Boone's first party of immigrants, where she married William Sturman of Virginia, she never forgot that she was a Hancock from Carolina."

Rowena Victoria did tell Dorcas that her father-in-law Nehemiah was a kind man. ^8,37

Mary married Nehemiah Davis III, son of Nehemiah Davis II and Mary (Polly) Allison, in Jan 1851 in Franklin Co., Illinois. (Nehemiah Davis III was born on 27 Sep 1827 in Gallia Co. Ohio ^6,37,60 and died on 25 Feb 1910 ⁶.)
